The Damascus Road Trio
Over 2000 years ago, God sent His Son Jesus to be His Ambassador of Mercy,
and to show us how we should live. The Bible tells us that Jesus was found to be
like us in all ways, yet even as a child He chose to be obedient, and to think more
highly of others than Himself. For 33 years He knew hardship, poverty, temptation,
and the same challenges that we face in our physical bodies.
During the final years of His life, He laid down the pursuit of His father's trade, and
set out to minister to the needs of folks just like you and I. With no promise of what
He would eat, or where He would sleep, He spent His days teaching, serving, and
leading others towards the Love of God. While His own people rejected Him and
the miracles that God did through Him, He never ceased to pray for the sick, help
the poor, and love the unlovely.
The pious rulers of that day were also challenged by Jesus and everything He
stood for, and they chose to harden their hearts against Him, accusing Him of
treason against Rome, and blasphemy against God. The plot of Satan himself
took shape, even to the point that the love of money caused one of Jesus' closest
followers to betray Him.
Even as the courts made a mockery of Him, He did not cry out in His own defense.
He placed His confidence in the plan of His Father God, and was obedient, right
to the point of His death. As the people had Him beaten beyond recognition, and
nailed to a cross, as was customary for the most heinous of criminals, Jesus
cried out, "Father forgive them! They don't know what they are doing!"
My friend, the Bible says that Jesus bore the weight, the consequence, of all sin
that day! You see, sin is what separates us from God, like a great canyon that
cannot be crossed. The only thing that sin brings us is destruction and death. Can
you imagine if you never sinned, and yet paid the same price?
What a terrible price for an innocent man to bear! How He loved us that He would
do such a thing, and how great is the Love of God that He spared nothing in order
to make a way for us to be restored to Him!
Where do we go from here? Let me tell you! If the death of Christ were the end of
the story, although it would be very moving, it would be incomplete! God's plan
was that we be restored to the way He created us, to live eternal life in
communion with Him! How is this possible?
After 3 days in the grave, God miraculously raised Jesus from the dead, defeating
Satan, and reclaiming authority over death, hell, and the grave. Because He lives,
and returned to His place in Heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort
us through this life! The Holy Spirit has been sent in the absence of Jesus to lead
the way!
HOW CAN I BE FORGIVEN, AND START A NEW LIFE WITH CHRIST??
